Why choose ABRATIG 307Si filler metal?
Choosing an ABRATIG 307Si filler metal (AWS standard: ER307Si) means that you’re looking to weld stainless steel in some rather special cases, notably where dissimilar welds are involved, or where very good resistance to impact and cracking is required. It’s a very specific stainless steel alloy.
- Perfect for dissimilar welds
TIG 307Si is ideal for welding stainless steel with carbon steel (e.g. stainless steel ↔ S235 / S355).
Very useful for transition parts or repairs on mixed equipment.
It adapts well to differences in thermal expansion between different steels.
- High impact and crack resistance
It contains :
~19% chromium
~9% nickel
~4 to 5% manganese
Its structure is austenitic + a little ferrite, with good resilience (resistance to sudden fracture, even at low temperatures).
Excellent for parts subject to vibration, shock or mechanical deformation.
- Good heat resistance (moderate)
Withstands temperatures up to 300-350°C without loss of properties
Not a “high-temperature” alloy, but perfect for standard industrial environments
- Good corrosion resistance
Less resistant than 316L stainless steel, but sufficient for moderately corrosive environments
Avoid highly acidic or prolonged marine environments
- Presence of silicon (Si)
Si” improves melt fluidity
→ Clean, smooth cord, easier to work with
