The metal cored wire FCW S 21 16 5N-G has been developed to provide an answer to problems such as bond defects, porosities, occurring when using solid amagnetic austenitic stainless steel wires W-No. 1.3964.

The base metal with low carbon, contains 21% Chrome, 16% Nickel, 3.5% Molybdenum, 5% Manganese and up to 0.35% Nitrogen.

The use of solid wire for this steel is difficult for reason that the melt pool is too mushy and consequently difficult to control. Also, the radiographic results are very mediocre.

The use of metal cored wire gives us decisive advantages:

Improved comfort for the welder due to a greatly improved processability
Effective increase of the deposition rate as fewer passes are required to fill a weld seam and also due to the possibility of increasing the welding speed
Very good flowing weld pool
Drastically reducing porosity, even in places spiked with the covered electrode and with low current
Use of a 2 component gas M12 instead of a 3 component gas Ar-He-Co₂
