Product description

Very low-carbon filler metal for gas-shielded TIG welding of Niobium-stabilized austenitic stainless steels type 318, or Titanium-stabilized steels type 316Ti. Good resistance to intergranular corrosion in the presence of hot dilute acids, oxidation and chloride pitting up to 400°C.

The T.I.G. process is particularly suitable for welding pipes, thin-walled structures up to 3mm thick and for penetration passes.

Why choose ABRATIG 318Si filler metal?

ABRATIG 318Si is a filler metal specifically formulated for welding stabilized austenitic stainless steels, especially those containing titanium (316Ti) or niobium (318). It is particularly useful in demanding environments, where corrosion resistance is a priority.

Good reasons to choose :

  1. Ideal for stabilized stainless steels

When welding stainless steel such as 316Ti, we want to avoid the formation of carbides that could weaken the weld. 318Si contains stabilizing elements (such as niobium) that prevent this phenomenon, ensuring longer weld life.

  1. Good resistance to intergranular corrosion

This is a strong point of this filler metal: it protects the welded area even after exposure to heat, where other wires could weaken the stainless steel. This is particularly useful for industrial piping, chemical or food installations.

  1. Resistance to chlorinated and high-temperature environments

It retains its properties even in humid, acidic or saline environments, and up to temperatures of around 400°C. A real plus for installations exposed to heat and chemicals.

  1. Silicon = beautiful finish and good fluidity

The “Si” in 318Si indicates the presence of silicon. This little extra enhances the fluidity of the molten bath, resulting in clean, even and aesthetically pleasing weld seams, even when welding by hand.

  1. Perfect for penetration passes and low thicknesses

Thanks to its finesse and precision, it is ideal for :

-root passes on piping,

thin parts, often in thicknesses of < 3 mm.
