Why choose ABRATIG Co6 filler metal?
TIG cobalt grade 6 (also known as Stellite 6, its most common trade name) is used primarily for its excellent wear, corrosion and high-temperature resistance properties. Here’s why it’s used:
- Exceptional wear resistance
Grade 6 cobalt holds up very well:
- abrasion resistance,
- to erosion,
- to galling.
This makes it ideal for parts subject to repeated friction or abrasive particles.
- Excellent high-temperature resistance
Unlike some ferrous alloys, cobalt retains its hardness and mechanical strength at high temperatures (up to 800-1000°C), which is crucial in severe thermal environments.
- Good corrosion resistance
It stands up well in corrosive environments, even when combined with mechanical wear – for example, in acid environments or with aggressive vapors.
- Easy TIG welding
The TIG process makes it possible to fine-tune the deposit, which is useful for targeted hardfacing on worn parts or for manufacturing new parts with reinforced zones.
